Because News Media has jQuery built in as standard to support the use of Extra Content, you can use this same API to add you own jQuery elements. For example, you could add content sliders or news tickers. It goes without saying that this requires quite a lot of custom code and some knowledge of Javascript in order to get additional JQuery elements functioning correctly. Bare in mind also that you may need to edit the theme in order to merge event handlers to avoid conflicts between different scripts.
